ImageThe largest fair is held every Saturday, but it continues every day. The current market is a place where cultures come together. Here you will find Tigua paintings, Salasacas tapestries, carved sculptures from San Antonio de Ibarra, Cotacachi leather clothes, Saraguros handicrafts as well as from the Quechua ethnics from the Amazonas Region, and also from countries like Peru and Bolivia. We can say that at this point Otavalo is now a Cultural Front.
You can find Otavalo traditional handicrafts that although designs have been changed and diversified, its raw material and quality continue to reflect the thinking and worldview of these people.

ImageOtavalo is visited by both local and foreign tourists. Nowadays it is one of the most important tourist destinations of Ecuador. People are attracted by its tremendous cultural wealth. Otavalo Quechua and Mestizo White populations are defending their identity which is hardened by their legends, myths, traditions and ancient practices that were received in legacy from their ancestors.

Quitsato or Sun Clock
A great Sun Clock, 52 meters in diameter, made from a big stone mosaic that marks the lines of the solstices and equinoxes as well as the hours of the day by projecting the shadow of a great post of 10 meters high which is placed exactly in the center of this large circular platform.
 
Archaeological Museum of Cayambe
ImageThe Bellavista district, belongs to the Puntiatzhil archaeological complex, where the temples for the sun and moon were built.
Archaeological crafts have been rescued in Puntiatzhil and surroundings for 20 years. The museum, located on this site shows 1,000 pieces, most are household utensils, musical instruments and also hunting instruments, war and ceremonies ones, as well as bones. The objects belong to the Cayambi, Panzaleo, Cuasmal and Incas cultures.
 
Feria de Cayambe
ImageCayambe is characterized by agriculture, focusing on floriculture and onion cultivation. This makes the market varied. Here you can find onions and other important products such as barley, potatoes, wheat and maize; and on a smaller scale you will find peas, beans, vegetables, alfalfa and fruit, several varieties of roses that are  recognized as the best in the world, plus a wide variety of typical food of the place.
 
San Marcos Lake
ImageAnother natural attraction is San Marcos Lake 33km from Cayambe, ideal to fish the  rainbow trout.
It lies at an altitude of 3510 a.s.l..Temperature ranges from 0 to 12 º C. It is on a plain level. San Marcos Lake is the result of glaciers and volcanic events that have acted simultaneously.
The flora we find around the lake is: ferns, cauchillo, chilca, butterfly bush, chilco, moral, mortiño, valeriana, etc. In Fauna we have: vultures, hawks, ibises, Torronteras ducks, owls, hummingbirds, spectacled bears, deer, dwarf deer, moor wolves, skunks and cougars.

Mojanda Lake

Laguna Mojanda
The scenery is simply charming at 3714 m. Mojanda Lagoon is surrounded by grassland and native forest remnants that maintain biodiversity as representative of the moors of the northern Andes. The Lagoon is located at the base of the hill Fuya Fuya at 4263 m. This place is preferred by many tourists who enjoy climbing on different specialties.
Climbing to the Lagoon by the road to Cayambe - Tabacundo and with a flattering climate we can see the Cayambe, Cotopaxi and Antisana  at the same time.

Cochasquí Archaeological Park and Scientific Research

Cochasqui Pyramids
The Community of Cochasquí at 3100 m. is an archaeological site with pyramid-shaped burial buildings and mounds that belong to the first inhabitants of Quito.­ The pyramids were built with a volcanic material called Cangahua found in the area. The path that leads to this place is the one that joins Guayllabamba to Tabacundo - Cayambe. It is located on uneven ground. Because it is on a mountain slope which allows a wide visibility of hills, snowcapped mountains and valleys of Ecuador high lands are seen. At 15km, at the top, the Mojanda lagoons are found.
